Egypt welcomes most travellers with an affordable and easy-to-obtain visa. Citizens of around 75 countries — including the US, UK, EU, Canada and Australia — can either apply online for an e-visa before departure or buy a visa on arrival at major airports. Both tourist options are valid for 30 days, with single-entry starting at USD 25 on arrival (USD 30 via the official e-visa portal) and multiple-entry at USD 65.

Tourist e-Visa (Single Entry)
Purpose:
For foreign tourists visiting Egypt for leisure, sightseeing or short family trips. The single-entry e-visa lets you enter Egypt once through any international airport, sea port or land crossing, and stay up to 30 days in total.
When to apply:
Submit your application on the official Egypt e-Visa Portal at least 7 days before your flight. Most applications are reviewed within a few business days.
Duration and extensions:
Each stay is up to 30 consecutive days. You may extend the visa once inside Egypt by visiting a local passport and immigration office, but the single-entry restriction still applies — leaving the country ends the visa.
Entries:
Single entry. Re-entering Egypt after you leave is not permitted on this visa.
Ports of entry:
All Egyptian international airports (Cairo, Hurghada, Luxor, Sharm El Sheikh, Borg El Arab), most land borders with Israel and Jordan, and the major Red Sea cruise ports.
Delivery format:

The e-Visa lets you settle everything before you fly: no queues at the airport, no cash to bring, and you get a printable PDF by email. The visa on arrival is faster to arrange if you decide last-minute and you belong to an eligible nationality — but you must pay in USD cash at the airport bank window and queue twice. Choose the e-Visa if you plan ahead; choose visa on arrival if you land without a visa and your passport qualifies.
Each entry allows a stay of up to 30 consecutive days. The single-entry e-visa is valid 90 days from issue and lets you enter once. The multiple-entry e-visa is valid 180 days from issue and lets you enter and exit several times, with each stay still capped at 30 days.
Yes. Border authorities at Egyptian airports, seaports and land crossings require a printed copy of the approved e-Visa. A version on your phone is generally not accepted at the immigration desk.

Yes. You can request an extension at a local Egyptian passport and immigration office while you are still inside the country. Extensions are granted at the discretion of the local authorities and may involve an additional fee. Leaving Egypt ends the visa immediately.
If the official Egyptian e-Visa portal refuses your application, you can reapply after checking that your passport is valid for at least 6 months, your photo meets the specifications, and all details match your passport exactly. Another option is to obtain a visa on arrival at the airport if your nationality is eligible.
